Living in Costa Rica

New homeowners will find that living in Costa Rica is the best way of life there is, in any tropical country.  Costa Rica, literally meaning ‘Rich Coast’ is the most stable of the Central American countries.  Its real estate is rapidly being developed for those looking to invest someplace with an exotic climate where their money will go just a little bit further.

Costa Rica has the best beaches on either side of the country.  If you plan on purchasing a pre-construction condo in Guanacaste you’ll be able to enjoy the annual nesting of Sea Turtles migrating in from the Pacific Ocean.  Those who prefer the Caribbean side of the isthmus country will find that though the beaches aren’t sandy white like most of the Caribbean islands the Afro-Caribbean culture is a delight to the senses and the tropical rainforests will appeal to any nature lover.

Limón on the Caribbean side of Costa Rica is a lively port of call for many cruise ships, but despite the sea tourists, real estate owners will find that the cost of living is much cheaper here than in other more touristy parts of the country.

One thing new Costa Rican condo owners will find out is that the country features loads of natural, tropical landscapes to explore.  Over twenty-five percent of Costa Rica is protected forests and land reserves.  You can visit a number of parks to see the Anhinga bird hunting in marshy lands of Cano Negro, in the Northern Plains or peer over the crater of the Poas Volcano near Poas.

Public transportation in Costa Rica is extremely inexpensive as new condo owners will find.  The average bus fair for a ride across town will only cost the rider between .25 and .50 cents.   However, should one prefer to drive the cost of a gallon of gasoline is much lower than many places in the world currently at about $1.75.  Should a new homeowner move someplace like San Jose they’ll soon find that even though Costa Rica doesn’t offer as much of an Arts and Crafts culture as say Guatemala, it does boast a couple of hidden shopping treasures.

The Galeria Namu sells Costa Rican native arts and crafts.  Here shoppers can find intricately detailed ‘Tagua’ figurines created by the Wounan Indians and colorful woven blankets.  There are also more than a dozen theater groups in the area eager to entertain San Jose Condo owners at the Teatro La Aduana and the Teatro Nacional, which is also home to the National Symphony Orchestra.

When homeowners decide to go shopping they will find that the costs of goods vary greatly.  The prices of name brand canned and dry foods exported from the states makes them more expensive, however many like to buy food in bulk at one of the central markets in cities all over the country and save a bundle.

Costa Rica has one of the highest standards of living of all the Central American countries.  Pre-construction condos and raw real estate are being snatched up by those eager to begin to invest in Costa Rica.  So don’t be surprised at the cost of new housing in the country.  The purchasing power is still much greater for day to day living here than in other countries and in many places the cost of middle class housing is very affordable.
